Content Marketer
Is Cheaterbuster worth it in 2026? We break down its price, subscription, refunds, Trustpilot reviews and limits, in a review written openly by a competitor.
Is the best-known Tinder search tool still worth your money? Here is what Cheaterbuster sells today, what it can and cannot find, and what most reviews get wrong about it.
A word on who is writing. CheatEye is our own dating profile search, and a competitor of Cheaterbuster. We did not buy a Cheaterbuster search for this review. Everything below comes from its public website, its terms and public user reviews, checked on 6 October 2026, with the price, terms and Trustpilot figures rechecked on 28 October 2026.
If you already know you want one search and no subscription, that is what CheatEye does: a search on Tinder for 17.90, with Bumble, Hinge, Happn and OkCupid as a 12.90 option (USD, EUR or GBP depending on your country).
Quick verdict
Fact check: what other reviews say, and what the site says today
Most Cheaterbuster reviews repeat the same figures. Several of them no longer match what the company publishes.
- Price. Elsewhere: "$17.99 per search", bundles of 2 or 3. On Cheaterbuster's site (28 Oct 2026): "$19.99 + tax".
- How you pay. Elsewhere: pay per search, with credits. On the site: "Current plans run as subscriptions with weekly updates".
- Apps covered. Elsewhere: "Tinder only". On the site: "dating networks", with no list of apps.
- Accuracy. Elsewhere: precise percentages. On the site: no figure, only "highly accurate".
- Free trial. Elsewhere: rarely mentioned. On the site: none. "Is Cheaterbuster free? No."
- Trustpilot score. Elsewhere: 2.3, 2.9 or 3.6 out of 5, depending on the article. On Trustpilot: score unavailable (see section 5).
What this means for you: check the price and the billing terms on the checkout page yourself before paying. They have changed, and third-party articles lag behind.
1. What is Cheaterbuster?
Cheaterbuster is a search service for public dating profiles. Its founders say it started in 2016. Press coverage at the time knew it as Swipebuster.
- What it does: looks for dating profiles matching a first name, an age and a location.
- Who runs it: Magnus Technology LLC, according to its terms updated on 20 October 2026. The checkout shows the name "Northstar Labs", and a bank statement may show "WHOP*CHEATERBUSTER".
- What it has become: a wider toolkit. The site now lists a photo search (FaceTrace), an Instagram follow tracker (Following AI), a Tea app checker, a username search and reverse lookups by phone, name, email and address.
It describes itself as "a public records search engine" that does not "scrape private data, hack accounts, or provide real-time device tracking".
2. How Cheaterbuster works

What you get, according to the site:
- Dating profile matches
- Recent activity and change indicators
- Profile updates (bio, photos, linked details)
- A weekly monitor and your search history
The person you search for is not notified. Cheaterbuster says searches "are run strictly through public records".
3. Feature deep-dive
What is missing:
- A list of the apps searched. The site says "dating networks" and, on its photo search page, "30+ dating apps and platforms". It does not name them.
- A one-off option. The plans shown are subscriptions.
- A published accuracy figure.
4. Pricing & Plans
- Price shown: $19.99 + tax, on its own website (28 Oct 2026).
- Type: a subscription with weekly updates for active searches, renewed automatically until you cancel.
- Covers: one person. Another person needs another subscription.
- Free trial: none.
- Refunds: if your first search finds no matching profile, Cheaterbuster says it refunds in full on request within 30 days. There is no refund if the search found at least one profile or if you unlocked an add-on, and renewals are not refunded.
- Billing period: not stated on the public pages. Check it at checkout.
- Cancelling: from subscription management in your account, or by email.
Before you pay:
- Read the renewal period on the checkout page.
- Note the date of your order.
- Decide in advance whether you want the monitoring to continue. If not, cancel from your account once you have your result.
How to cancel Cheaterbuster
According to its FAQ, you log in, open Subscription Management in your account and choose Cancel Subscription. You can also email support from the address you signed up with, and Cheaterbuster says it cancels within 24 hours. Renewals are not refunded, so cancel before your renewal date; charges taken after a confirmed cancellation are refunded.
5. Accuracy, speed & reliability
Does Cheaterbuster work? It can, within clear limits.
When it tends to work:
- The first name on the profile is the real first name
- The age is right, or close
- The location is where the person actually uses the app
- The profile is public and has been active recently
- You add a clear photo
When it tends to fail:
About the accuracy figures you see online. Cheaterbuster publishes no accuracy figure; its site only says the search is "highly accurate". Many articles quote precise percentages, including an "independent test", but none of them describes how it was run. Treat those numbers with caution.
What user reviews say. On 28 October 2026, Trustpilot showed 309 reviews for Cheaterbuster, with no overall score. Trustpilot states that the rating is unavailable because of a breach of its guidelines, and that it removed a number of fake reviews. The reviews that remain are split: 60% give 1 star and 36% give 5 stars.
6. User experience & interface

- Onboarding: three fields, plus an optional photo.
- Account: you need an email and a password. Results stay in your account.
- Results: matching profiles with photos and activity signals, updated weekly.
The most common frustration in reviews is the order of the steps: you enter everything first and see the price at the end.
7. Pros & Cons
8. Is CheaterBuster safe, legal & ethical?
- Safety: you pay through standard payment providers and create an account with an email.
- Legality: searching for information a person published themselves is legal in most places. Rules vary by country and by state, and this is not legal advice.
- Ethics: it depends on why you search. An honest conversation remains the better first step when it is possible.

10. Verdict: who should use Cheaterbuster?
Whatever tool you use, read a result carefully:
- A profile that exists is not a profile that is used. Accounts stay online long after people stop opening the app. Here is whether Tinder deletes inactive accounts.
- Check the photos, the bio and the location. Recent details point to recent use.
- Learn what the status labels mean before reading too much into them: see what Active means on Tinder.
- No result is not a certificate. The person may use another name, another age or another app.
11. CheatEye as an alternative: what it does differently

Final thoughts
Cheaterbuster is a real service with a long history, and it can find a public profile when your details are right.
- It has changed. It is now a subscription with monitoring, at $19.99 + tax, not the cheap one-off Tinder search many reviews still describe.
- It has limits every tool shares. Hidden profiles, fake names and deleted accounts stay out of reach.
- Its public reviews are hard to read. The Trustpilot score is unavailable, and the remaining reviews are split between the two extremes.
Use whichever tool you choose responsibly. A search can answer one question. It cannot replace the conversation that follows.
