Is Cheaterbuster Legit?

Is Cheaterbuster legit or a scam? A real company and a real product, but its pricing and reviews need a careful read. What we checked before you pay.

The checkout page is open in one tab and your card is on the desk. In the other tab, you typed the question that brought you here. That pause is a good instinct. You're about to pay a site you'd never heard of a week ago, for an answer you'd rather not need.

Short answer: yes, Cheaterbuster is a legitimate service, not a scam. It is run by an identified company, it has existed since 2016, and it delivers an actual product. The real questions are different: whether you understand what you are paying for, and whether its reviews can be trusted.

This page splits "legit" into six separate checks, spends most of its time on the two that deserve it (pricing and reviews), and ends with what to verify before you pay for any tool of this kind, ours included.

If you'd rather not think about billing periods at all: CheatEye, our own tool, runs the same kind of check as a single payment. One search, $17.90, no subscription to cancel. You give a first name, an age, a gender and a location, add a photo if you have one, and you see whether a Tinder profile matches. Run a search on CheatEye, or keep reading for the full check on Cheaterbuster.

"Legit" is six questions, not one

"Legit" means several things, so we checked each one separately.

  • Is it a real company? Yes. Its terms name the operator, Magnus Technology LLC.
  • Does it deliver a real product? Yes. It returns public dating profiles matching a name, age and location.
  • Is the price clear before you pay? Partly. The price is published ($19.99 + tax). The billing period is not.
  • Can you trust its reviews? Unclear. Trustpilot removed fake reviews and hides its score.
  • Is it legal to use? In most places. It searches information people published themselves.
  • Does it prove someone is cheating? No. A profile is not proof of activity.

Is Cheaterbuster a real company?

Yes, and it's the easiest of the six to check:

  • Operator: Magnus Technology LLC, named in its terms and conditions.
  • Age: the founders say they started in 2016. Press coverage at the time knew the service as Swipebuster.
  • Contact: a support email and a help center are listed on the site.
  • What it says about itself: "a public records search engine" that does not "scrape private data, hack accounts, or provide real-time device tracking".

A scam site usually hides who runs it and disappears within months. Cheaterbuster does neither.

Does it deliver what it sells?

It delivers a search. Whether the search finds your person is a separate matter.

What you get, according to the site:

  • Public dating profiles matching a first name, an age and a location
  • Photo matching if you add a picture
  • Activity and change indicators
  • Weekly updates while the subscription runs

What it can't deliver, like every tool of this kind:

  • A profile hidden from discovery. Hidden profiles are not shown publicly.
  • A deleted account. There is nothing left to search.
  • Someone using a fake name, when you have no photo. The name search has nothing to match.
  • Messages or matches. Those are private.
  • When the app was last opened, with certainty. It reads public signals only.

Picture a search for a Daniel, 34, in the city where he works. He signed up as Dan, shaved three years off his age, and hid his profile from discovery. The search comes back empty, and every part of the tool worked.

So "I paid and found nothing" does not mean you were scammed. It can mean the person has no public profile, or that the details were off.

Is the pricing transparent?

Partly. This is where most complaints come from.

Read as a buyer, that means three things.

You are not buying a one-time search. You are starting a subscription.

A second person means a second subscription. The plan covers one person.

Older reviews are out of date on this. They describe a one-off search at $17.99. That no longer matches the site.

Many negative reviews come from people who expected a single payment. The information is on the site, but it sits in the FAQ rather than on the first screen.

Can you trust Cheaterbuster's reviews?

This is the weakest point, and the one other articles get wrong.

Here's what Trustpilot showed on 6 October 2026.

No overall score. Trustpilot states: "This company's rating is unavailable due to a breach of our guidelines."

A notice that it removed a number of fake reviews for this company.

315 reviews, split between the two extremes:

Almost nobody sits in the middle. What should you make of that?

The scores quoted elsewhere are gone. Articles quoting a Trustpilot score of 2.1, 2.3, 2.9 or 3.6 are quoting a number that is no longer displayed. We found all four in current reviews.

Removed fake reviews do not prove the product is bad. They do mean the positive reviews deserve caution.

The reviews are still there to read. Read the most recent 1-star and 5-star reviews yourself. The recurring themes are consistent: unexpected charges on one side, quick and simple results on the other.

A word on "honest review" articles. Most of the pages ranking for this question are written to promote another tool, ours included. Check who publishes a review before trusting its verdict.

Is it legal and safe to use?

Legal. Searching for information that a person made public is legal in most countries. Laws vary by country and by state. This is not legal advice.

Anonymous. The person you search for is not notified.

Your data. You create an account with an email and a password, and you pay through a payment provider.

What stays illegal, with any tool. Logging into someone's accounts, reading their private messages, or installing software on their phone without consent. Wanting the answer tonight doesn't change that.

Legit does not mean right for you

A company can be real and its product can still be the wrong purchase for you. That's the question the word "legit" never answers.

Six checks to make while the card is still in your hand

This checklist applies to Cheaterbuster and to every competitor, CheatEye included.

  1. Find the price on the company's own site, not in a review.
  1. Check whether it is a subscription. Look for the words "renews", "weekly" or "monthly" on the checkout page.
  1. Note the date you pay.
  1. Read what a "no result" gets you. Most tools charge for the search, not for a match.
  1. Use accurate details. A wrong age or city wastes the search.
  1. Decide what you will do with the answer before you run the search.

The last one is the one people skip. A result doesn't end the evening, it starts a different one.

If Cheaterbuster isn't what you were looking for

  • You want the full picture of what Cheaterbuster does: read our Cheaterbuster review.
  • You want other tools, including free methods: see Cheaterbuster alternatives.
  • You want a direct comparison with our own tool: that's Cheaterbuster vs CheatEye.
  • You want every method in one place: start with websites to catch cheaters.

Cheaterbuster or CheatEye: the short comparison

We make CheatEye, so take this as a competitor's own summary. Every Cheaterbuster line comes from its public site, as detailed above.

When CheatEye finds a profile, you see its bio, its photos, when it was last active and where it was last used. The person isn't notified. It doesn't search by phone number or email, and it shows no messages and no live location.

If a single payment for a single answer is what you were looking for, run a search on CheatEye. For the detailed side-by-side, see Cheaterbuster vs CheatEye.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cheaterbuster a scam? No. It is operated by an identified company, it has been online since 2016, and it returns real search results. The complaints you'll read concern the subscription and the results, not a fake service.

Is Cheaterbuster real? Yes. It searches public dating profiles from a first name, an age and a location, and it is a paid service.

Why does Cheaterbuster have no Trustpilot score? Trustpilot states that the rating is unavailable because of a breach of its guidelines, and that it removed a number of fake reviews for the company. The individual reviews remain visible.

Will I be charged more than once? Cheaterbuster describes its plans as subscriptions with weekly updates. A subscription renews until you cancel it. Check the renewal period on the checkout page and cancel from your account if you only wanted one search.

Does a Cheaterbuster result prove cheating? No. A result shows that a public profile matching your details exists. It doesn't show that the profile is used today, and it says nothing about messages or meetings.

Is Cheaterbuster safe? Using it does not notify the person, and it does not access private accounts. As with any paid service, the main risk is financial: understand the subscription before you pay.
