PimEyes Alternatives: Free and Paid Options Compared (2026)

PimEyes searches the open web only, and its free search hides the links. The real alternatives, what each shows for free, and which check dating apps.

You uploaded a photo and PimEyes told you there were matches. Then it showed them blurred, with the links locked behind a payment. So you went looking for the tool that does the same thing and lets you see the answer.

Short answer: there is no free tool that does exactly what PimEyes does. Free image search engines find copies of a picture, not a face. Face search engines let you run a search for free and charge for the links. And none of them, PimEyes included, looks inside dating apps.

That last point changes which tool you need, so this guide starts with a way to pick by goal. Then it covers what PimEyes does and costs, the free alternatives, the face search alternatives, and what any of them can tell you about a dating profile.

If the photo you're holding is of someone you know, and the question is whether they're on a dating app: no face search engine can answer that, PimEyes included, because dating profiles sit behind a login. CheatEye, our own tool, searches Tinder directly from a first name, an age, a gender and a location, with the photo as an optional extra. One search costs $17.90. Run a search on CheatEye, or read on for the full list of alternatives.

Pick by what you need

What PimEyes does, and what it leaves out

PimEyes describes itself as a "face search and reverse image search engine". You upload a photo and it shows where that face appears online.

What it covers, in its own words, is "Only the open web, excluding social media and video platforms". That means websites, blogs, news, forums and other public pages.

The list of what it leaves out is just as explicit:

Dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble and Hinge sit behind a login. PimEyes does not name them, but they fall outside what it searches.

One rule most lists forget. PimEyes presents its service as a way to monitor your own image. Its Privacy & Ethics page lists "monitoring ex-partners or romantic interests" among the strictly prohibited uses. If your goal is to check on a partner, PimEyes is not built for it, and not only for technical reasons. For that goal, we keep a separate list of websites that help you check on a partner.

Is PimEyes free?

Partly. "Free" covers three different things, and PimEyes gives you only the first.

Running a search and seeing that matches exist: yes, that's free.

Seeing the images clearly: no. "Blur-free images" is a paid feature.

Opening the page where the image appears: no. Source links need a subscription or a one-time purchase.

In its own words: "Free searches allow you to see that matches exist, but access to the source links is limited."

That's the screen you probably landed on: you know something is out there, and you can't open it.

The number of free searches is unclear at the source. Its pricing table says 10 per day. Its terms say 3 free accesses for users without an account.

What PimEyes costs

Prices are not printed on the pricing page. We read them from the payment page it loads. Check them yourself before paying.

Prices in US dollars for a buyer in the United States, as returned by PimEyes' payment page on 6 October 2026. Sales tax may be added at checkout depending on the state.

There is no free trial of the paid plans.

The free alternatives

These four are free and show you the source page. None of them says it recognises faces.

They reward a bit of care. Four habits make the difference:

  1. Use the original photo, not a screenshot.
  1. Crop tightly around the face.
  1. Run the same photo through at least two engines. They index different pages.
  1. Try two or three different photos of the person.

What they are good for: catching a photo that was lifted from someone else's social account. That is the classic sign of a fake profile. See how to spot a fake dating profile. The same engines drive our workflow for finding an OnlyFans account from a photo.

The face search alternatives

These work like PimEyes: you search a face, not a picture. Read the conditions before choosing.

FaceCheck.ID says it searches public web pages, with filters for social media, scammers, news and mugshots. Running a search is the free part. After that you pay in credits, from $19 for 150 credits, and one search costs 3 credits. Two things are worth knowing before you start: it is paid in cryptocurrency only, and its site states "We do not issue refunds".

Lenso.ai says it searches public websites that do not require logging in. On the free side, some results are shown and others are blocked. It has paid plans, with prices not readable on its site without checkout. And its face search is not available in the EEA, the UK or Illinois.

The pattern is the same everywhere. Running the search is free. Seeing where the image comes from is not. Several lists describe FaceCheck.ID as free with usable results. On its own site, access to links is a paid benefit.

Can a face search find a dating profile?

Only indirectly, and this is the part most lists skip.

What a face search can find: a photo that leaked onto the public web, for example a profile picture reposted on a forum, a review site or a public page.

What it cannot find: a profile that exists only inside an app. Tinder, Bumble and Hinge do not let search engines index their photos.

So "no result" on a face search tells you nothing about dating apps. And a result tells you a photo is online, not that a profile is active. Picture the same selfie sitting on a forum thread from years ago and on a Tinder profile opened last night: a face search can reach the first and has no way to see the second.

If the dating app question is the one you care about, the tool is different:

We make one of these tools. CheatEye searches Tinder, and Bumble, Hinge, Happn and OkCupid as an option, from a first name, an age, a gender and a location. A photo is optional and is matched with facial recognition. When a profile is found, you get the profile's bio and photos, its last activity and the last place it was used. It does not search the open web, it does not search by phone or email, and it shows no messages and no live location. Other services of this kind exist. We could not verify what they cover.

For the method step by step, see how to look up a Tinder profile from a photo.

What one check really costs

Most people need one verification, not a subscription. So the useful number is the entry price for a single check, taken from each site.

These tools do not answer the same question, so do not compare the prices alone. Pick the question first. For the subscription in that table, our review lists the prices Social Catfish shows on its site.

How to choose

If you've read this far, you probably recognise yourself in one of these.

  • You suspect a profile uses stolen photos. Start with Google Lens and TinEye, free.
  • You want to know where your own face appears. PimEyes.
  • You need a face search and live in Europe. Check each tool's terms first. Lenso's face search is closed to the EEA and the UK.
  • You do not want to pay in cryptocurrency. Rule out FaceCheck.ID.
  • You met someone online and doubt their identity. Social Catfish. See our Social Catfish alternatives for free options.
  • You want to know whether someone is on Tinder or Hinge. A dating profile search.

Use face search responsibly

A face is not a username. Looking one up deserves a second of thought about whose it is.

  • Your own face: fine everywhere, and the original purpose of PimEyes. If you find your pictures on a fake profile, here's how to report stolen photos to Tinder.
  • Someone you are about to meet: checking that their photos are theirs is a reasonable safety step.
  • A stranger: several tools forbid it in their terms, and some countries and US states restrict the use of facial data.

Rules vary by country and by state. This is not legal advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a free PimEyes alternative? For reverse image search, yes: Google Lens, Bing Visual Search, Yandex Images and TinEye are free and show the source page. For face search, no tool gives full results for free. FaceCheck.ID and Lenso.ai let you run a search and charge for links or block part of the results.

Is PimEyes free? You can run a search and see that matches exist. Clear images and source links need a subscription, from $29.99 a month before tax, or a one-time purchase of $14.99.

Does PimEyes search dating apps? PimEyes says it searches the open web only and does not access private or password-protected platforms. Dating apps require a login, so their profiles are out of its reach.

Does PimEyes search social media? No. Its site states that social media platforms are intentionally excluded.

What is the best PimEyes alternative for dating apps? A face search engine isn't the right kind of tool. To know whether a person has a profile on Tinder, Bumble or Hinge, you need a dating profile search, which starts from a name, an age and a location. We compare the options in our guide to searching Tinder without creating an account.

Is there a PimEyes app? PimEyes says it is "available exclusively through this website" and offers no mobile app. Apps using its name in the app stores are not from PimEyes, according to that statement.
